Marketing and Development
with Charism Enterprises
Among its other headings, our Sanctuary newsletter has a section on Marketing, another word for Promotion.  I suppose Marketing sounds better than Promotion as a department name in a business.  At any rate, it's everything that comes under the heading of getting your organization's name out to the public, promoting its image, and therefore helping to bring in the funds that make it all grow and prosper.

Development is another word for Fundraising.   A snobbish group will usually refuse to call their development department a "fundraising department."  I suppose we should follow suit there, just so we're all on the same page in conversation.

Small organizations don't need to call their departments anything at all unless it'd be the "beg and borrow" area of the shelter.   It's the old adage of "you have to have money to make money."  And if you're scrambling just to keep the critters fed and housed, it's terribly hard to find that extra money for marketing and development.

A typical Marketing/Development department in a nonprofit organization will be in charge of these areas and more:

Public Relations                         Graphic Design                           Volunteer Coordination
Direct Mail Appeals                   Promotional Materials                Special Events
Database Administration          Grants Proposals                        Planned Giving

And in many cases, one person may wear several of these hats, especially in a small organization.  Sometimes volunteers or Friends members can take on duties to relieve the pressure.  Eventually, if the organization is successful, you'll have a staff that's paid for their services, just like any other business.

Charism Enterprises can help you with the areas of graphic design, promotional materials, direct mail appeals and (in the near future) database administration.   As well, we research articles covering public relations, volunteers and Friends groups, planned giving and grants information, and any other topics that seem relevant to animal welfare fundraising.  Many of the events, promotions, sales ideas and appeals that we feature online have graphic material available that you can customize to your organization - or have us do that for you.  We can research foundations that might be prospective funders for you in the area of grants.

In other words, we're telling you that we're growing, and adding more each week.  If you stick with us, we'll stick with you.  That's how it works.
