The
"Un-Ball" or "Non-Event"
is a popular concept with
nonprofits. The premise is that you solicit
donations for an event that doesn't take place. Instead, you suggest that
the donors stay home with their families and do something together that's related
to the interests of the nonprofit. In the case of animal welfare,
you might suggest that they stay home with their own pet, or visit a friend or
neighbor's pet, for some quality time. A dog or cat may enjoy some play time,
a needed bath or other grooming, a walk, a drive, a visit to Petco or PetSmart,
a visit to a dog park, etc. Quality time can be donated at vet clinics,
your organization's facilities, or anywhere else where animals are in need
of some personal attention. The "Non-Event" can be fairly inexpensive to pull off. Basically, you only need the invitation, which would contain a return envelope for donations. Just as important is the follow-up with thank you letters, and recording the donors into your database. Only a small committee would be necessary for this. Brainstorm on ideas for a title, for what you're going to suggest the donors do in lieu of coming to an event in person. This one opens itself up for a lot of silliness, if you'd like. Something such as "Smooch A Pooch Un-Ball" or "Pur-r-r-fect Evening Non-Event" - but I know you can do better than that. Questions? Email sanctuary@charism.biz. |
